Family Support Specialist

“I believe all children can reach their potential if we ensure they have the same opportunities.”

Amarilis’ role within VOCEL is working with parents, families, and caregivers to provide support, tools, and ideas. Before joining the VOCEL team, Amarilis had previously worked as a parent advocate to provide advocacy for children with disabilities and provided trainings for parents and families to enhance their knowledge on disability rights, resources, and community outreach.

Amarilis’s goal is to cultivate a trusting space for parents, caregivers, and families to provide a space where children can thrive. Through Amarilis’s personal experience raising children with disabilities, she can provide first-hand experience and knowledge to parents on next steps to best support their children.  Additionally, Amarilis is originally from Guatemala where she provided support and advocated for vulnerable populations and is ecstatic to continue doing so in Chicago today.

In her free time, Amarilis enjoys spending time with her four children, who she loves very much! She also enjoys music, so don’t be surprised if you see her driving in traffic singing, and dancing too! Road trips are something she enjoys too, especially to the beach.
