Aleisha Ramos Ortiz grew up in Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory where the education system has steadily declined over the years. Witnessing firsthand the challenges faced by students and teachers in an underfunded system, Aleisha developed a deep understanding of the importance of access to quality education. These early experiences shaped their passion for making a difference—not only in education but also in how communities can come together to pave creative paths forward.

With a background in mechanical engineering, Aleisha joined the U.S. Navy, an experience that exposed them to different cultures and diverse ways of learning. Traveling and adapting to various environments sparked a deep appreciation for the power of education and reinforced their belief in the importance of community. It also nurtured their love for engineering and problem-solving.

After transitioning from the military, Aleisha was drawn to VOCEL’s mission. The organization’s emphasis on community involvement—recognizing that everyone, from teachers to parents, plays a vital role in a child’s growth—resonated deeply with them. At VOCEL, Aleisha combines their technical background with a passion for helping others, contributing to a holistic approach to child development and education.

Beyond their work, Aleisha is dedicated to giving back through volunteer efforts at a young adult school and an after-school program. They strongly believe in the power of education and mentorship to support individuals of all ages. Outside of work, they enjoy traveling, snow sports, and playing the piano—activities that help them recharge, stay active, and express creativity. Aleisha strives to maintain a healthy balance between personal and professional life, driven by a desire to make a positive impact on others.
